I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The weather conditions in the southern part of the Red River Valley made for some very tough traveling. We drove on ice from Brookings, SD to north of Fargo on I-29. We came through Fargo about noon last Sunday, so we really didn’t experience the “tough, tough” conditions that many others did. There were and still are power outages throughout the region. Many accidents were attributed to the weather conditions.
We spent our Thanksgiving in Olathe and Lawrence, Kansas with out 2 sons and their families. We went with our daughter and son-in-law and their 2 boys. What a great time we had. This year I did not go shopping on what is known as “Black Friday”. I remember going last year and it was a nightmare. My daughter and daughter-in-law made up for those who have the sanity to stay home. They power shopped all over Kansas City. I did all my shopping on “Cyber Monday” right from the convenience of my leather chair in front of my computer. That was much easier. I didn’t even get elbowed.
Edinburg looks so nice with a blanket of snow on the ground and glittering lights from housetops and yards. Most everyone has their Christmas lights up and turned on. “Edinburger’s” are bright people as most of the citizens get their lights on in early October so they don’t have to fight the cold weather.
For the first time in 43 years Trinity Lutheran did not have their annual Candlelight service the first Sunday in Advent. Sometimes it is hard to organize as many participants want to be other places over the Thanksgiving holiday. This year the Candlelight Service will be December 11th. This just gives more time for the choir to rehearse! Everyone in the area is invited to attend this beautiful program of Christmas music and word.
We were so sorry to return to Edinburg to find out John Evenson was at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo where he underwent emergency triple by-pass surgery. We hear he is doing fine and hopefully he will soon be home. We also extend our sympathy to Eva Johnson and her family. Gilman died yesterday after a courageous battle with cancer. We will remember Eva and family and John and Eunice in our prayers.
This Sunday we are celebrating Orlando Gryde’s 80th birthday with an Open House over at Trinity. He is SO excited. I asked him if he had any preferences for the afternoon. He thought “dancing girls” would be nice, but decided potato salad would be even better! He has such a sense of humor and quick wit about him. Orlando is very well liked so we are planning for quite a few people to come and wish him well.
Christmas is just around the corner. Time goes flying by. Saturday, December 17th is our annual “Turkey Give-Away” day in town sponsored by the Business Club. The Fire Department makes sure Santa gets to Edinburg to visit with the kids and the older people enjoy an afternoon of bingo, drawings for door prizes, visiting and eating lots of Christmas goodies. It is a fun time for everyone to get together. Have a great day!
